ANNAPOLIS, Md., March 30, 2023 – Rivers of Recovery (RoR), a national nonprofit that uses outdoor-based activities to treat symptoms of post-traumatic stress, depression and anxiety in combat veterans and active-duty military, has appointed BoatUS Foundation for Boating Safety and Clean Water president Chris Edmonston to its board of directors.

Edmonston is bringing his nearly three decades of boating industry experience to the Rivers of Recovery board, which currently includes decorated combat veterans, reservist and active duty service members, outdoorsmen and outdoor industry executives, military association directors, university researchers, veterans health advocates and former U.S. Dept. of Interior and Dept. of Defense officials.

“Rivers of Recovery is thrilled to announce the appointment of Chris Edmonston to our board of directors,” said RoR executive director Amy Simon. “We are confident that Chris will bring valuable insights to our organization as we continue to expand and find more ways to serve our military heroes.”

“I’m honored to be a part of an organization that helps our heroes with innovative therapies in a very deep way,” said Edmonston. “My goal is to bring my knowledge of the boating and fishing industries to help Rivers of Recovery continue to do great things for our service members and veterans who suffer from post-traumatic stress. Rivers of Recovery’s therapeutic outdoors program provides clinically-proven and sustainable treatment, and anything the BoatUS Foundation can do to support RoR’s efforts is my goal.” Additionally, Edmonston hopes to establish a conduit for veteran employment in the marine industry.
