ANNAPOLIS, Md., Feb. 25, 2025 – America’s Boating Club Atlanta took top honors recently at the organization’s annual meeting in Orlando, Florida, earning the 2024 BoatUS Foundation Distinguished Civic Service Award. Bestowed annually by the BoatUS Foundation for Boating Safety and Clean Water, the honor recognizes exceptional service in public boating safety education and service to the boating community. America’s Boating Club Atlanta's members are from the city and suburbs of Atlanta and enjoy boating on Lake Lanier and Lake Allatoona.

Said BoatUS Foundation Director of Boating Safety Ted Sensenbrenner, “America’s Boating Club Atlanta helped make the region’s lakes and waterways a safer place to boat, supported clean water efforts, and strengthened waterway user and community partnerships that helped the local boating community stay safe and have fun.”

Some of America’s Boating Club Atlanta’s community-based activities last year included participating in waterway cleanups, offering basic boating safety classes in English and Spanish that allowed more residents to fulfill state requirements for boating safety education, providing boating vessel safety checks for poker run participants to keep captains and crews focused on having a safe day, and endorsing a Governor’s proclamation acknowledging the role of America’s Boating Club and other safety partners for Georgia Safe Boating Week.

Education outreach included captaining Chattahoochee Riverkeeper’s floating classroom for youth that focused on STEM curriculum. America’s Boating Club Atlanta also organized a kids’ day on the water for the residents of Cavalry Children’s Home, which provided a unique experience in getting the youngsters active in the community.

America’s Boating Club, formerly known as the United States Power Squadrons, is a nonprofit educational organization dedicated to making boating safer and more enjoyable by teaching classes in boat handling and related subjects. Members contribute to their communities by promoting safe boating through education, civic service, and having fun on and off the water.
