Garmin LiveScope 2: Seeing is Believing

The latest game-changing sonar technology displays imagery so detailed you can see the tails on the fish!

Garmin shook up the fishfinding world a few years ago with its LiveScope real-time imaging that was so detailed you could identify individual fish on an MFD screen while casting to them. This innovation set off an arms race among electronics manufacturers seeking to match or beat the Garmin system.

To meet the competition, Garmin introduces LiveScope 2. Is it any better? Look closer at the lead photo. Yes, the view is now so detailed you can see the tails on the fish. It’s hard not to be impressed, and the judges at this year’s International Convention of Allied Sportfishing Trades (ICAST) show agree, awarding the LiveScope 2 for Best New Electronics.

Integrated image stabilization, fast processing, and low latency work together to reduce noise and enhance target separation on the screen. If a typical fishfinder takes an X-ray of what’s beneath the water’s surface, this system is more like an MRI. Take a closer look with this video from Garmin:

The LiveScope 2 lineup includes a selection of three new transducers, all of which work with compatible Garmin MFDs (most EchoMap and GPSMAP units).

  • The LVS44 is for anglers who want the most range possible, delivering a 25% boost with a max range of 250 feet. Meanwhile, resolution gets a 20% improvement.
  • The LVS42HD prioritizes detail over range, covering half the distance of the LVS44, but revealing a striking 50% increase in detail.
  • The LiveScope 2 HD Ice Fishing transducer is designed for (you guessed it) ice fishing fans and is mounted on a zero-degree shaft with a flexible cold-water cable.

The LVS42HD transducer is optimized to be Garmin’s clearest live sonar ever.

The LVS44 and the LVS42HD can be mounted to a bow-mount electric trolling motor shaft or with Garmin’s Spy Pole Mount. All LiveScope 2 transducers connect directly to compatible MFDs, eliminating the need for a black box and simplifying installation.
