Fishing Goes Social

By Stacey Nedrow-Wigmore

The new AV Connect from Aqua-Vu allows users to not only see what's going on at the end of the line in real time, but also record and share it on social media.

Viewing underwater camera footage on smartphone

Underwater cameras and viewing systems have been around for a couple decades now. The latest iterations are pretty impressive, with their high-definition cameras, large daylight-viewable LCD screens, and touchscreen technology. Aqua-Vu has taken the category one step further with its new AV Connect. This adapter transforms your current underwater camera into a Wi-Fi-ready device, allowing you to instantly view, record, save, and share all of the action at the end of your line with friends on social media or by email from your iOS or Android device using the free AV Connect app.

Aqua-Vu AV Connect Wi-Fi Adapter

Your fishfinder will put you on top of the fish, but this gadget offers the thrill of a face-to-face look at the fish you're chasing.

Because the adapter creates its own Wi-Fi hotspot, you can use it even in the most remote fishing spots. No cell service is necessary. Plus, anyone with a phone or tablet within about 25 feet of the video module can watch what's happening below the surface — all at the same time using their own mobile devices.

Watch a video of the AV Connect in action:

AV Connect is compatible with Aqua-Vu's systems or any underwater camera that has an RCA video-out connection. Featuring a credit card-sized video module, the AV Connect adapter includes an RCA video-out cable/adapter and 12-volt battery connection. The module connects to and can be powered either by the underwater camera's internal rechargeable battery or by an auxiliary 12-volt battery. The company says it takes just minutes to set up and is very easy to use.

In addition to allowing users to watch the action happening below the waterline, the AV Connect app records underwater footage of a hotspot and can link the footage to a GPS coordinate so you can find that secret fishing hole again or share it with friends. The app also lets you to monitor real-time video feeds from underwater "trail cameras" set under boat docks, brush piles, or while ice fishing. You can even link and monitor several cameras on the same device.

The AV Connect app is compatible with iPhone and iPad running a minimum of iOS 8, and Android devices running 4.2 or later. AV Connect adapter module, $149.99; AV Connect app, free. Underwater camera sold separately. | aquavu.com
