Hi - I guess I am first.

I bought a 1989 Scout 152 at the beginning of this spring, with an 89 Yamaha 55 hp motor. It came complete with everything I needed to take it out, PFDs, flares, etc. Amazingly, everything on the boat and trailer worked and it passed the USCG courtesy inspection with no problem.

I use a 16' Boston Whaler almost everyday April-November and am amazed at how much better the Scout handles a chop than the Whaler, despite a similar hull design. Not that I am knocking the Whaler - I consider them indestructable and the one I use is a 1970 and it is in very seaworthy condition. It's just that the Scout takes the waves easier.

The Yamaha purrs like a kitten at speed but tends to foul the plugs after an extensive idle. It is also hard as heck to start, but both things are something that I am fairly good at overcoming. It is also something of a gas hog but by keeping my speed steady at @22 - 25 mph, I can get about 9 miles per gallon.

All in all, I love the boat and would recommend one to anybody.

We just bought a 2007 (leftover) Scout 160.  It's our first "powerboat"; we're sailors and wanted something we could use to run around in at the Jersey shore and that my son can use fishing.  It's powered by a Yamaha 60.  The boat goes in the water tomorrow, so we're hoping it handles well.  We'll be using it inshore, but we cross the inside of a large inlet so the swells can build.  The Scout seems to be a very well-built boat.  It's finished nicely inside all hatches, with no raw edges.  My only concern is the plug on the bow for the running lights.  I think water may get in there, even though there is a plug cover.

I've posted this in another location in this forum, but will now publish this in the Scout forum.  Any help will be appreciated.

I have a 2005 Scout 185 CC with the factory swim platform. I am interested in installing trim tabs on the boat and/or a hydrofoils (like dolfins) on the motor.  Has anyone tried this?  What did you install?  As to trim tabs, where on the transom were they install?  Towards the bottom or nearer to the sides?  Did you see an improvement in the stability, ride, trim of the boat and hole shot?  Thanks.
