Recently I posted a query over on the Connie forum
regarding an individual by the name of Joe Leva.
Here is the follow-on:
This individual posts business cards at West Marine and
other marine related stores. He also goes around to
marinas sticking his fliers on cars.
His business name: Fiberglass & Gelcoat Restoration.
He currently uses the name Joe Leva but has also used the
name Joe Garcia and in Florida has used the name Jose.
He claims to be of Cuban descent and does speak with a
Cuban or Hispanic accent.
HE IS A SCAM ARTIST!!
He travels the coast and rips off people (dummies like me).
He is very good at what he does. Furnishes a very good
looking contract, phone numbers, business address, etc.
IT IS ALL PHONY!! HE IS A SCAM ARTIST!!
He will arrive at your vessel and talk a great line, such as;
"I worked at Broward Boat Yard in Florida and I used to
build racing boats for Don Johnson, etc." He will somehow
work his family situation into the story and on and on.
He will tell you that he just might be able to start
immediately! That's always good news, right? He shows
up the next day, screws your boat up with a grinding wheel
for a day and you'll probably never see him again.
ALL PHONE NUMBERS AND ADDRESSES ARE PHONY!
Please pass this info on to your marinas and fellow boaters!
I want to put this guy out of business. I know that
probably will not happen. Scam artists just change names
and move on to another area until it dries up.
I am taking all the steps I can such as filing complaints with
the Maryland, Virginia and DC Atty Generals Office, etc.
Will be writing up something for local news letters and
organizations.
Please get the word out on this guy. Sometimes he has
been known to have two other "back-up" scam artists work
with him.
