Hey there...
I am a proud owner of a 1977 formula thunderbird 5.7 w Merc outdrive and...
Last season after climbing high on a wave my boat slammed down pretty hard, after doing so whenever i tried to fill up my tank it would only take about a gallon and then over flow. I assumed I just got great milage however i ran out of gas after talking to a mechanic he presented the idea that the filler tube on the inside probably knocked loose therefore once the fuel covers the end of the tube inside it backflows.
I am having great difficulty finding a replacement tank (aluminum) for it. Every welder ive talked to doesnt want to touch it because aluminum is porus and has absorbed some gas and is highly dangerous!
I should mention that there is no access to this tank i will have to cut it out. Is this normal on Formulas? i always had access panel on other boats..
Anyhow would anyone know the stock demensions of this model tank? as far as i can tell its about 10 or so inches deep and 16-18 wide but thats about all i can tell with it covered..
