We are considering the purchase of a 2000 Palm Beach 160 for my 16-year old son to use fishing back bays and calm inlets, and general inshore running around, at the Jersey shore.  Aside from the company's website, I can't find any reviews on this boat.  Does anyone have any thoughts on the boat?  It appears in good condition, although we haven't been able to find the gas tank yet.  I've requested a brochure on the new model from the builder.  We are having the motor, a 1995 Johnson 70 hp two-stroke, surveyed, too.  I'm interested in speed/handling, hull cracks/blisters, trim/listing,  overall stability (it's on a trailer right now) and any other generic issues with the boat.  The price and size are right for shoving into our slip with our Beneteau 373 sailboat!

Thanks!

I have the flyer for the 2000 boats. There is a Palm Beach Whitecap 161 (but no 160).
Unfortunately, I have no scanner here in my Maryland house.

Length: 15'7"
Beam 82"
Appx Weight 600
Draft - 5 - 7"
Fuel 23 gal
Max HP 75
Transom Ht 20"
Persons 4
Hull Deadrise 12 degrees

The fuel tank is probably midships, under the center console. The boat is built on a pressure treated plywood eggcrate construction, and the wood and stringers have a lifetime guarantee.

I own the 23 footer and it has performed well with no structural problems. It's an inexpensive boat to begin with, but more than adequate for the bay. Don't overpay. My 2000 221 Whitecap with a walk-in console and head, vhf, depthfinder and GPS and a 200 HP Merc is only valued at around 13 - 14K (no trailer). In fact, I'd sentertain bids around that price (wife wants a boat with a cabin).
