I PURCHASED A USED 2001 330 CABRIO 3 MOS. AGO. WITH 160 HRS. ON THE ENGINES. THE BOAT WAS IN BEAUTIFUL CONDITION. I PAID $74,000. THE FIRST MONTH OF OWNING THE BOAT I HAD TO HAVE THE OUT DRIVE REPLACED ON THE PORT ENGINE. $4,400 LATER. THIS PAST WEEKEND LOST THE PORT ENGINE AGAIN. I JUST RECEIVED A PHONE CALL FROM THE MECHANIC TELLING ME THAT IT NOW HAD A CRACK CYLINDER. THIS JUST DOESN'T SOUND NORMAL TO ME. THEY WANT TO CHARGE ME ANOTHER $2,OOO ++++ TO FIX THIS ENGINE. WHICH I AM GOING TO DO BECAUSE I NOW WANT TO GET RID OF THE BOAT. HAS ANYONE HAD ANY TROUBLE WITH THEIR ENGINES ON THE LARSONS. MY HUSBAND AND I ARE WANTING TO PURCHASE THE NEW 2007 CABRIO 370 AND TO BE QUITE HONEST I AM A LITTLE SCARED OF THIS LARSON NAME. I FEEL LIKE MAYBE I PURCHASED A LEMON. ANY HELP AT ALL WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!

THANKS SO MUCH,

Congratulations.

I'm looking at a 2001 330 CABRIO.  Is there anything I should look out for?

YOU BETTER READ MY WHOLE POST BEFORE YOU PURCHASE THIS BOAT. WE LOVED THIS BOAT UNTIL WE GOT IT INTO THE WATER. MAYBE, IT IS JUST THIS BOAT BECAUSE I KNOW THE LARSON HAS A GREAT NAME. MY HUSBAND FEELS THAT THE ENGINE IS A MANUFACTURER DEFECT BUT IT HAS COST US $7,000 IN JUST 3 MOS. I AM SO UNHAPPY WITH THIS BOAT. WE WILL NOT EVEN TAKE IT OUT ON LONG TRIPS BECAUSE WE DO NOT TRUST IT ANYMORE. I HOPE YOUR PURCHASE IS MUCH BETTER THAN OURS. GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR NEW BOAT.

I was wondering if you have the boat surveyed before you bought it. Did a marine mechanic inspect the engines and check everything. Was there any service history and did you look into that? This should be a good boat.

Graham, We did not have a marine mechanic inspect the engines. I recently emailed the owner and he swears to me that he has never once had a problem with the engines. We have a certified MerCruiser mechanic on our boat now fixing the engine. It is always the port engine we have problems with and he is telling us that he feels that it is a manufacturer defected engine. He said that the engines in our boat are usually one of the best. We have the twin inboard/outboard Mercruisers 300 hp each. We are just so upset about all this. Everytime we take the boat out something seems to go wrong with the port engine. Otherwise, yes we love the Larson. Actually, looking at the new 2007 370. It is beautiful.
