Anyone wanting to discuss or ask questions regarding the Wellcraft Portofino, fire away.  I am not a total expert on the yacht, but I have just finished two years of out of the water restoration of an 87 Port and have gone over every inch including custom fabrication of many original and now unavailable parts.

I am interested in purchasing a portofino.  I was wondering if you had any problems with your stringers or any other structural issues.  I know from another owner that he had a problem with the plastic hull fittings rotting out and the boat taking on water through them.  How would say the boat was on gas.  Please let me know what think.  Thanks

Interesting... What year are you looking at? Mine is an 87 and has all brass through hulls. No plastic anywhere except for after market add ons above the waterline.  There is always water in the bilge and I have not been able to track down the point of intrusion other than the usual stuffing box drips.
The stringers appear solid.  What area are you in? I will be selling mine soon.

Robert, I don't really have any warning signs for you to look for except for the usual pre boat purchase checklist. Get a survey on the boat you find. They are very solid yachts. Welcrafts entry in to large yachts and they built it solid. It was definitely an ocean going boat, not a calm water lake cruiser.  Mine has been on some seriously long cruises over it's life and according to the log books it performed great. I heard that the Portofino hull molds from the rub rails down were purchased from Betram Yachts.  My marine shop pointed out to me that the engine room is equipped with much better gear than modern Sea Rays.  Mine will be on the market soon.  I have to finish out a few little things. Replace interior carpet with a higher grade and doing some other interior cosmetics.  I bought this boat about three years ago and since then I have purchased a house on the lake and dont really need a yacht anymore. I am thinking more along the bass boat lines now.

I am interested in your supplier/vendor lists.  I am sure you worked with plenty over the term of your restoratiion project.  I am updating/restoring a 1989 Gran sport and would like to know which vendors you prefered to get parts from.  Currently I am looking for a source for the small plastic extrusion that covers the windshield attachment screws to the hull, including other obscure items like this.

Anything you can share regarding wellcraft info would be appreciated, and I love your Port.  It looks fantastic.

Thanks Dan, Can you post a photo of the part you are looking for, or where it goes? I assume you mean the black plastic trim that goes into the windshield frame to hide screws. If so, that comes from Taco Marine or Taylor Made.  On that item I think I went direct to Taylor Made, however they couldn't tell me based on my boat, but instead I sketched a profile of the trim and they identified it that way. I think the called it screw cover strips.  Also look to BoatFix.com and Boatered.com  Get the Boatfix catalog. It is $15 and is huge. Best prices anywhere.
