It all starts as dreaming, but as mentioned previously, my mind wanders to the beautiful Elegante.  A question for NHDoral and others...

What (gasoline) engine option is the real-world minimum powerplants?  I see from the Doral site that the 8.1's will push this monster to 55 mph!!  That's awesome! Even if it costs me $80 to race them little boats, what a rush it would be to beat a runabout!  Ha!

Before you write me off as a dufus, I am TRUELY more interested in the ease of getting on plane when fully loaded with water, gas and people...   My Monticello under the same conditions with the 280 hp Volvo DP sometimes struggles to get up on plane, even with full tabs.  A condition I'd call adequate at best.  95% of the time she does just fine.  I don't need to "pop" up on plane, just make good progress getting up there.

So, through this babbling, I ask- If we see a used Elegante with the 5.7s, say, is this a boat to walk away from?

Thanks in advance.  This warm weather is killing me!

Not sure about power, my Intrigue does great with 5.7's but I don't
know about the larger Elegante...
However, I would pick up the phone and call Will about his leftover 05
Elegante that he's trying to move... I can tell you that if the timing was
right I would be jumping on it... Unfortunately it's not...
But I saw the '07 Elegante at the show here for $270k, as the new boat
prices are going through the roof... so if Will sells you that '05 for
170k..................................................

NW, I have a 2005 in stock that I have twin 5.7 320 Volvo's in. The boat runs 48mph all day under full load. Jumps right on plane and has plenty of power. I wouldn't order one with 8.1's. All of the elegante's I have sold are with 320 5.7's or 7.4MPI and the owners love them. I think it is plenty of power.

I will say though, Ruiz is right, A new Elegante is about 290K whereas you can literally buy a 2005 for not much more then half that. If you are seriously interested, and I am not trying to be the salesman but give me a call, I will make you an offer you can not refuse. I guarantee it. Also I bet it will be the same price as a used one. Keep in mind, Retail on a 2005 used elegante is 196,000 right now. I can sell for way less. Like I said, I dont want to be the salesman but if your interested.......

Cheers,
NHDORAL

Will:

I have a 2003 with the 8.1's.  One of the real benefits I see to the larger motors is the ability to run at 3/4 Throttle with relative speed and economy.  Not runnning the motors frequently at full throttle - as I understand - should significantly prolong thier life.  I think I have only run my boat once or twice at full throttle during flat conditions and was quite impressed with the speed and agility of this nearly '38 LOA cruiser.  Running at about 3/4 throttle gives a cruise around 35mph.

Thats a good point Theo. However this boat seems to cruise at about 3800-3900 at right around 33mph. I do understand where you come from. What is your fuel burn?

Will:

I should know this figure but I am not certain I would guess around 25gph.

The Elegante is 3,000 lbs heavier than the Intrigue...  But my Intrigue does perform incredibly well with the 5.7's.  I actually can stay on plane at 3,000 rpm and even a bit lower depending on the seas.

Will, if you can't move that Elegante in a year I'll be stealing it from you

A friend of my cousin's garbage collector who has a brother in the business who knows a guy named Will in New Hampshire tells me that Will plans on hanging onto that brand new 2005 until about 2009 when I can afford her.

So, Ruizsantana, you'll have to shop somewhere else.  By the way, who steps up only one model, anyway?

All Fun...

NH Doral-

We'd like delivery May 1st, 2009 and not a day later.  Please keep her under cover in heated storage until then.

Don't be late.  We gave plenty of notice.  And, she'd better have a tank full of fuel.

Good doing business with you.

BD
