I am getting ready to sale my 1996 24 Signature, and going to replace it with 06 276 cruiser.  I finally gave up on the chap forum, too slow at posting replies.  does anyone have a 5.7 276?  the two I am looking at, 1 has a 5.7 and the other an 8.1.

I would go with the 8.1, you can never have too much power. The 8.1 will barely be working at cruising speeds so you might get better fuel economy. The 5.7 will be working hard all the time

I would concur with oneboatnut.  At one time I had a 24' (a SeaRay Sundancer not the Chap) with the 5.7 motor (carb'd) and wished I had gone bigger.  Think about adding gear, fuel, water, and a number of persons to total weight. You would be pushing around alot for a 5.7 (harder working = shorter life).  As this is a sporty cruiser, are you thinking watersports are a possibility?

I understand your frustration with the Chap forum.  They moderate it to so heavily that it slows it down to a crawl.  All the posts are held for review before they make it to the board.  There are frequently days that go by before a post can make it through.  Posts will not take place outside business hours, holidays, and a variety of other unidentifiable blackouts. So silly.

Thanks for the advise.  I figured the 8.1 is the way to go.  So 8.1 it is.  Most if not all our use is for cruising.

Thanks
