Volvo Penta’s new propulsion package promises more power, faster acceleration, smoother shifting, increased fuel efficiency, and extended cruising range.
Volvo Penta introduced its new upgraded Aquamatic DPI diesel propulsion package at September’s Cannes Boat Show in France, but the engine builder’s most powerful Aquamatic will be at fall and winter boat shows, including the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show beginning October 29, 2025. American boatbuilders are already integrating the D6 480 DPI (Duo Prop Inline) in their new boats, and the complete propulsion package is available for repowering older sterndrive boats through certified dealers.
“Performance and handling. Onboard comfort and convenience. Increased fuel efficiency. Longer intervals between servicing. Extended cruising range. Ease of use across the entire lifecycle. Freedom and flexibility in terms of designing and using the stern of the boat,” Martin Jufors, VP of Marine Sales, lists the new package’s advantages for both dealers and boat owners.
The D6 480 DPI system ties together multiple features, all accessible via the Volvo Penta Glass Cockpit System.
The integrated diesel engine and drive package is designed for single, twin, triple, or quadruple installations for a powerful and scalable propulsion package. The D6 480 DPI will be available in new boats from Formula, Cruiser, MJM, and Hood Yachts, making it viable for a broad range of boats and applications, from wakeboats to cruising yachts. The D6 480 DPI package integrates with the company’s helm-to-propeller system that includes intuitive technology features such as Joystick Driving, Assisted Docking and Autopilot, all of which are accessible via the Volvo Penta Glass Cockpit System.
