Three years after vastly improving the steering systems for outboard boats, Dometic Marine has configured its Optimus Electric Power Steering system for inboard-powered wakeboats.

"Watersports enthusiasts are going to love it ... because nimble, in-control boat driving will also lead to a better experience," says Eric Fetchko, president Dometic's marine segment.

Based on Dometic’s proven electric steering technology found on outboard-powered boats, a new Optimus Electric Actuator replaces the traditional cable or hydraulic steering systems used on this class of boats. The steering actuator is attached to the rudder via a rudder post and is commanded by the electronic steering helm. Since all the electronics and mechanical elements are housed within the actuator itself, the system is compact and durable.

Electric steering removes the loads felt on the steering wheel and eliminates any "bumpiness" the operator might feel while driving. As a result, wake boat drivers enjoy effortless steering, and perhaps enhanced driver focus, making for a better ride for those in the water.

Dometic says the electric inboard steering actuator will enable boat builders to fully integrate electric steering with surf gates/wake shapers, trim tabs and other N2K devices for superior vessel ride, and wake control. Advanced features and functions never include adjustable lock-to-lock turns and adjustable wheel effort parameters that let drivers "fine-tune" wheel control to their preference, watersports activity and driving style.
