Mike Pellerin

Vice President, Underwriting

Mike Pellerin
What do you do at BoatUS Marine Insurance?

I manage the underwriting and administration of the insurance program.

How does your job impact our product or policyholders?

The Underwriting and Administration Departments basically provide the front end customer service, working with each member on the details of each quote and policy. We service virtually all customer needs in terms of the application process, buying coverage and then keeping the coverage up to date as needed.

How many years have you been with BoatUS?

I started with BoatUS in 1992, during which time I've worked in all different facets of the company. I started out as an assistant manager trainee in what was then our product division, and later served as a District Manager and Product Buyer. I worked in the BoatUS Claims Department around the time that Hurricane Isabel hit, and during the subsequent years of heightened hurricane activity. I was also charged with developing and launching the BoatUS ANGLER program, which provides insurance and other specialized resources for our Angler Members. I have been very fortunate to find a career that aligns with a pastime I love.

Do you own a boat? If so, what kind and where do you use it?

I own a Grady White 208 Adventure named “Crab Trap”. It is perfect for our local waters. I keep it in Deale, MD so that I can pursue my favorite game; rockfish (striped bass) and crabs.

Your favorite vacation spot?

I have two favorite spots; Franklin, West Virginia and Chincoteague, VA. I spend many weekends in the mountains of West Virginia where there's great trout and smallmouth bass fishing, hiking, biking and canoeing nearby. The mountains are my true love (after my wife of course) where I can escape the fast paced city life.

Chincoteague and the national seashore at Assateague Island are my favorite flounder fishing spots.

Tell us something that nobody knows about you.

I am an avid mountain biker. I bike a few times a week and participate in some local races. My favorite is a 12 hour endurance race that takes place in the spring. It is a lot of fun and very challenging. I also do some shorter cross-country races over the summer. I travel primarily in VA, MD and WV for single track trail systems and I have traveled as far as Utah on a few occasions for their world-class trails.
