  • Boat Owners Association of The United States, better known as BoatUS, is sometimes described as "your auto-club on the water" due to its Membership-based recreational boat and trailer towing services. From marine insurance, to on-the-water towing, to our highly awarded BoatUS Magazine, to Government Affair's grassroots lobbying efforts, we strive to make your time out on the water as enjoyable as possible.

    We are currently interviewing for a Summer Intern based in the N. VA area. Government Affairs works to ensure that boating remains an affordable, available recreation for our Members and the nation’s boaters by reducing “hassle factors” and assuring future regulations and government policies are boating-friendly.

    Position Responsibilities:
    *Learn boating policy issues and public policy process
    *Monitor Federal Register & Congressional Record for boating related material
    *Research association grass roots assistance programs & social media strategies
    *Research state boating information and update Government Affairs website with information gathered
    *Other research projects as assigned
  • Required Experience:
    *Undergraduate student (Political Science, Public Policy or Communications major)
    *Strong written communication skills
    *Research skills
    *Basic Computer and Web skills including ability to update web pages using a content managment system

    Preferred Experience:
    *Boater
    *Polictical Campaign experience
    *Desire to work on policy/political issues
    *Ability to work independently within a small team

    Additional Details:
    10-week paid internship, approximately 40 hours per week
