Tutorial

To get started, you should move the map to the location that you want to view services for. Use the instructions on the movement tab to learn how!

Once you have moved the map to the location that you want, select the checkbox next to one or more services from the list at the top of the sidebar (more info).

Toolbar

The toolbar has many tools you can use to customize how the map is displayed.

Searching: The search bar allows you to search for locations on the map. It is fully explained on the searching tab.

Views: Using the view buttons, you can change how locations are displayed on the screen.

Map View

Clicking on the list view button (#1 above) will remove the map and list any visible locations as a 3-column list. Clicking on map view (#2) will give you the largest map, and all visible locations will be plotted on it. In dual-view (#3, the default view) you will see the map with locations plotted and a sidebar listing up to 20 locations at once. If there are more than 20 locations visible, the sidebar will present you with next and previous buttons for you to be able to see all results. You may switch back and forth between views at any time.

Map Type: Using the map type buttons, you can change the type of map displayed.

Map Type

The standard map (#1) is the default; it shows a typical road map. Satellite view (#2) shows an actual image of the Earth's surface with the roads overlaid on top. Terrain view (#3) shows a topological map with no roads.

Printing: If you want to print the page, you should use the print button on the toolbar:

Print Button

If you use your browser's print button, the map will not print.

Map Movement

In order to see the services where you live and boat, you need to move the map to the correct area. The simplest way to do this is with your mouse. Using your mouse, you can click on the map and drag it (with your mouse button still clicked) to move the map around. You can also use the arrow keys on your keyboard (but you must click on the map first).

Zooming: When you want to zoom, you have a few options. If your mouse has a scroll wheel, moving that while over the map will zoom in and out (it will zoom in on the coordinates your mouse is over). Alternatively, you may use the zoom toolbar:

Zoom Toolbar

The slider (#1) will zoom in and out when you click and drag the slider handle. The zoom in/out buttons (#2/#3) do the same. If you click on the select view button (#4), you can select an area of the map that you want to see, and the map will automatically move and zoom so that the area you selected is visible.

If you click on an empty area of the map, the map will zoom in one level to whatever coordinate you clicked on.

Services

Currently, 4 services are available to locator on the Member Services Locator: Tow Boat Ports, Cooperating Marinas, West Marine Stores, and Life Jacket Loaner Locations. Each service is represented by icons of a unique color based on the legend on the top of the sidebar:

Services

If you select the checkbox next to a service, the map will display that service's locations.

If you are in map-only view, every location (for the selected services) has a flag icon. Clicking on any icon will open up a small window with more information about that location.

If you are in dual-view (map and sidebar), the sidebar will list up to 20 of the locations visible on the map. The sidebar gives you an easy way to see several of the listed locations. Those locations listed on the sidebar will receive a numbered flag icon on the map that coordinates with their number on the sidebar, while the others will receive a color-coded dot (both can be clicked to get the more info window). If there are more results than can be displayed on the sidebar, you can click on the next/previous buttons and the next set of points will be listed.

Printing

To Print, please use the print button on the black bar, NOT your browser’s print button.

When you hit print, you will only be able to print those locations that are numbered. To print all the locations that you can see on the Google Map, after you get the areas or maps that you want, then change the view to Map only or Text only and then press the Print button.

Print

In order for the map to look it's best, please use the print button on the toolbar of the service locator, not the browser print button. The button looks like this: Toolbar Print Button, and is found on the black toolbar near the top of the map window.
