BoatUS Magazine Wins 9 Awards from Boating Writers International

MIAMI, February 27, 2018 – Boating Writers International, the professional association for writers, editors, publishers, photographers and videographers in the recreational boating and fishing industry, bestowed nine awards on BoatUS Magazine staff during a presentation recently held at the group’s annual meeting at the 2018 Miami International Boat Show. The awards, which attracted nearly 300 entries, recognized the best marine writing and videos from 2017 and included cash awards to winners across 17 categories. BoatUS Magazine features and video entries earned first, second and third place awards as well as six merit awards.

Here are the winning entries:

The Business of Boating – First place: “Where Are All the Young Boaters?” by Fiona McGlynn, BoatUS Magazine October/November issue. Said judge Kimberly Koditek: “In ‘Where Are All the Young Boaters?’ the personal connection to the author’s life, its timeliness and relevance to the industry as a whole, truly took on a unique approach in examining this important topic.”

Boating Videos – Second place: “How to Repair Gelcoat” by Mark Corke (BoatUS Video, Nov. 12). Certificates of merit awarded to: “How to Choose a Life Jacket” by Paul Cronin (BoatUS Video, Dec. 15); “How to Back a Boat Trailer” by Rich Armstrong (BoatUS Video, May 2); and “How to Change the Engine Oil in Your Boat” by Charles Fort (BoatUS Video, July 3). Environmental Awareness & Education – Third place: “Bitter Soup” by Stacey Wigmore, BoatUS Magazine August/September.

Boat/Engine Care and Maintenance – Certificates of merit: “Spring Commissioning Advice” by Frank Lanier, BoatUS Magazine,April/May issue; “Flushed with Success” by Mark Corke, BoatUS Magazine April/May.

Boating Travel or Destinations – Certificate of Merit: “Fancy Dancing in Pine Island” by Douglas Bernon, BoatUS Magazine, February/March.
