New Sounder Sees Bottom In Greater Detail

By Mark Corke

Technology continues to push the boundaries past rudimentary depth sounders, or fishfinders, from decades past.

While cruisers and dayboaters look for a clean bottom to anchor, fishermen actively seek for areas of coral, rocks, or the edges of underwater drop-offs where trophy fish might collect as they lie in wait for baitfish.

Whatever your reason for wanting to know what lies beneath the boat the new range of Humminbird sounders could provide the answer. Featuring what Humminbird calls

MEGA Imaging+, the new technology further pushes the boundaries of its MEGA Imaging technology, giving users the ability to see 200 feet out to each side and 200 feet below the boat, all in crisp, clear detail.

The extended side and down imaging ranges provide greater accuracy in identifying fish and fish-holding structure and make scouting time shorter so anglers can spend more time fishing the most productive water. According to Humminbird, the new version offers 20 percent more detail than standard MEGA Imaging sonar launched in 2016.

The new imaging technology is available on select third generation HELIX 8, 9, 10, and 12 units, and second generation SOLIX 10, 12, and 15 units.

Prices start at $1,199.99 for the Helix 8 with MEGA Imaging+.
