Man Overboard Alarm For Your Smartphone

By Rich Armstrong

Weems & Plath, the nautical safety and navigation product manufacturer, has introduced a new man-overboard (MOB) alarm system called CrewWatcher.

CrewWatcher app and alarm

CrewWatcher is an app-based alarm system designed to help quickly rescue a person (or pet) overboard. The system works like a virtual lifeline and is made up of two components: a smartphone app and a small beacon that can be worn by each crewmember (up to five). The beacon does not require manual activation; the alarm triggers automatically in an MOB event. Should someone go overboard, the system automatically sounds an alarm on the skipper's smartphone, provides latitude/longitude coordinates of the person in the water, notes the time of the event, and visually guides the rescuer to the person overboard wearing the beacon.

This video shows how it works:

"CrewWatcher is the fastest way to save a person or pet overboard," says Weems & Plath CEO, Peter Trogdon. "It aligns directly with our mission of fostering safe boating around the world and creating superior products for life aboard."

The CrewWatcher single pack retails for $89.99; the double pack for $149.99. Go to weems-plath.com for more information.
