Women in Boating: Traing and Seminars - Women's Sailing Conference Photos

Training and Seminars

The historic Corinthian Yacht Club on Marblehead Harbor in Massachusetts was the scene for the first Women's Sailing Conference. Here, one class gets ready for an on-the-water session on sail trim.

Everything you wanted to know about spinnakers, but were afraid to ask. Linda Epstein, a nationally ranked racing sailor, leads this class.

The spinnaker class goes over the basics before going out on the water for some hands-on practice.

On board his sailboat, Peter Blaisdell of Marblehead, shows how to deploy the Life Sling man overboard system to haul someone up by using the boom and a block and tackle. Above and below.

The Man Overboard class listens intently before heading out on the water to practice using a Life Sling.

Women aboard a boat with instructor Susan Epstein learn the fine points of sail trim and sail handling in Marblehead Harbor.

The participants gathered for cocktails and hors d'ouevres in the elegant Trophy Room of the yacht club - trading sailing stories, of course.

A festive dinner, with guest speaker and raffle prizes, ended the day. BoatUS was the main sponsor of the one-day event.

Conference co-chairs were Joan Thayer, at left, and Sue Corl, second from right, both of Marblehead, MA, and board members of National Women's Sailing Assoc. The featured after dinner speaker was BT Global Challenge racer Katherine O'Connell, second from left.
