Sailing/Powerboating Schools

There are a number of commerically operated power and sail training programs for women:
  • Sea Sense-The Women’s Sailing & Powerboating School, based in St. Petersburg, FL, and operated by two women licensed captains, programs are offered at a variety of locations in the U.S. and Caribbean, even barging in France. Courses are day-long to 3-8 day cruises, all on board. Instruction is also available aboard your own boat, sail or power.

  • Adventure Cruising and Sailing School, based in St. Petersburg, FL, operated by an experience woman captain. Sailing classes and charters in Tampa Bay, St. Petersburg, Cape Canaveral, Chesapeake Bay, Maine, Bahamas, Carbbean. Courses are few hours to 1 - 7days. Course list includes Introduction to Sailing, Navigation, Docking, Man Overboard Retreival Methods, Heavy Weather and Emergency Boat handling, GPS, and Boat Systems/ Under Power.

  • Modern Sailing Academy, Sausalito, CA Modern Sailing Academy strives to provide an exceptional learning environment for women sailors, and we have several programs to get you involved. Our programs are led by MSA instructor Captain Suzette Smith. A veteran of numerous offshore and coastal passages, Smith was a member of the historic first all-womens' America's Cup Team 'America3' in 1995. Women's-only Basic Keelboat or Basic Coastal Cruising courses will teach you everything you need to know to begin chartering boats up to 33'. The academy's Women's Sailing Group meets once a month for informal daysails open to women of all experience levels, so it's a great chance to get out on the water and see if sailing is for you.
