Which is better: a trailer coupler that is secured with a lever or one that is a twist lock? L. Madison, Seattle, WA

MIKE: They both work well. All of the replacement couplers that you will see at the boat store will have the lever type of locking mechanism. You will also see that they sell the repair kits for them as well. It may be wise to use what is most readily available when an unexpected replacement or repair is necessary. GEORGE: I prefer the lever the best. It will never lock without being on the shank while a twist can actually be sitting on the ball and you can turn it and think it's locked into place when it really isn't.
