Question

The Boat Trailering Guys

Should the winch be at the same height as the boat's bow eye? C.Kasey New Orleans LA.

GEORGE: The answer is yes. The actual line from the winch to the bow eye should be level. Most winch stanchions are designed to adjust to the height of the bow eye and all that is needed to do it is a pliers and a screwdriver. Winching the boat with a level strap provides the needed mechanical advantage because the strap is being pulled straight in, rather than from the top or from the bottom. MIKE: The cable, or strap, should lead from the winch to the eye horizontally. You may need to adjust the bow stop horizontally so that it does not interfere with the cable/strap
