A hose pulled off the engine raw water intake valve during a hard freeze and sent this boat to the bottom. According to the surveyor's report, the boat's owner had done an inadequate job of securing the hose after winterizing the engine. The owner also said he had shut the non-marine "gate valve" securely, but the stem was broken, so the valve offered no protection when ice lifted the hose off the through hull.
