The next time your considering moving your boat to a smaller slip to save a few dollars on slip rental fees, think again. How your boat rides the storm out depends not only on how well it's tied, but also on the amount of space it has to jostle within the slip. Storm surges and extreme tides require additional slack in docklines to allow the boat to rise and fall with the water levels. If the slip is too small for the boat, the docklines will likely be snubbed too tight to accommodate the extreme levels while keeping the boat off the pilings. |
