We invite you to subscribe to the Technical Information EXCHANGE for Marine Professionals. For over a decade, EXCHANGE has been providing a non-profit service to marine professionals: a forum to exchange information on recreational boats and related specialized services.

Surveyors, underwriters, adjusters, repairers, lenders, appraisers, towers, and others serving the recreational boating public have discovered that EXCHANGE is an important tool of the trade. As a member-subscriber, you will find reports of actual boat problems (potential hazards), articles on what affects boat safety and insurance, reports on test equipment, and other helpful information. EXCHANGE is truly an exchange of useful information-a year-round "round table discussion" without the cost of traveling to time-consuming meetings and seminars.

A primary feature of EXCHANGE is "ON WATCH."

ON WATCH is a unique database resource found nowhere else. Marine surveyors and other industry professionals send in reports of real problems on boats they have observed in the field. As a subscriber, a simple phone call allows you to access this information, or you can log-on to the EXCHANGE web site to browse through the ON WATCH database yourself. What better way to avoid overlooking a critical item on a similar boat?

In addition, the EXCHANGE staff includes a response for each ON WATCH entry from the boat manufacturer, giving their perspective of the problem and possible solutions and repair recommendations. This information can also be offered to the potential buyer or owner of the boat.

Handy "Technical Input Cards" make it easy to file information with ON WATCH for future retrieval. Or, submit the information through the ON WATCH E-mail submission form. (The names of all contributors are kept confidential.) Entries are cross-filed three ways: by specific problem, boat make, and part of the boat affected. The on-line database is arranged in alphabetical order by manufacturer.

Each issue also contains feature articles written by the EXCHANGE staff, as well as frequent contributed articles from people who provide or use services like yours. Here are some of the topics covered by earlier issues:

  • Understanding Survey Formats

  • Ultrasonic Testing of Fiberglass

  • Boat building into the 21st Century

  • How Receding Blisters Raise Legal Questions About Surveys

  • Investigating Boat Fires

Other regular newsletter features include BRIDGE-TO-BRIDGE, an open forum of letters and ideas; NEWS NOTES & TRENDS; and a CALENDAR of professional meetings. EXCHANGE is solid information--no advertising or puff pieces disguised as product reviews.

In 1992, EXCHANGE joined the battle against boat theft and insurance fraud by allocating space in each issue to the International Association of Marine Investigators (IAMI). Their news on boat identification systems and accounts of successful investigations bring an extra dimension to EXCHANGE readers. As an added bonus, you'll receive Seaworthy, the BoatU.S. Marine Insurance Damage Avoidance Report, normally available only to boat owners insured through the Boat Owners Association of The United States or by separate subscription. Seaworthy alerts readers to potential boating risks by describing actual losses from the BoatU.S. Marine Insurance claim files. (For a complete description go to the Seaworthy web page.)

And more good news is the cost of this unique technical resource service! A full year, bringing you four issues of EXCHANGE, four issues of Seaworthy, and unlimited access to the EXCHANGE web site and ON WATCH database is just $25. That's a total of 112 pages of concentrated, valuable information.

And save 40% with a special Group Discount. Round up just four colleagues, branch offices, or friends (minimum group size is 5) and take advantage of this super savings.

Remember: An open EXCHANGE of information requires your participation; you are invited to share your professional experiences for the benefit of all.
