SIX MILE, SC, April 27, 2011 - TowBoatUS on Lake Keowee is now owned and operated by two brothers, Benny and Woody Owens, and a good friend, Todd Campbell. TowBoatUS’ on-the-water service gives boaters and anglers a reliable way to call for assistance when their boats break down on the water, run out of gas or run aground. The three owners are committed to providing a safe, professional and courteous service to the boaters of Lake Keowee. ‘’We wish all boaters on Lake Keowee a very enjoyable experience but, if necessary we can help ensure that they and their families make it off the water safely,” said Capt. Benny Owens.
The trio also owns TowBoatUS Lake Russell and TowBoatUS Lake Hartwell. In addition to these on-the-water towing companies, their experience ranges from operating fishing boats offshore out of Charleston, South Carolina, and trips to the Bahamas out of Miami, to running boats on upstate lakes for over 30 years.
Capt. Woody Owens has experience in engineering and technical support, while his brother, Capt. Benny Owens, has been in law enforcement 21 years, including work in marine patrol and boating safety. Both are licensed US Coast Guard captains authorized to tow disabled boats. Campbell, an owner/operator of a successful crane business, is a former volunteer firefighter and has worked in search and rescue.
The company’s towboats are staffed by professional US Coast Guard licensed captains approved to operate on Lake Keowee. Available 24/7, 365 days a year to assist stranded boaters, the company is also part of the nation’s largest towing program which has over 600 towboats serving hundreds of ports and waterways coast to coast, including locations on nearby Lake Murray and Lake Lanier.
Much like an auto club for boaters, Boat Owners Association of The United States (BoatUS) offers an “Unlimited” on-the-water towing service plan for freshwaters that cost just$34 a year plus an additional $24 for BoatUS or BoatUS Angler membership ($58 total annually).Without a towing plan, boaters face costs that nationally average about $600 per incident. If you don’t have a towing plan, this cost will be paid out of your own pocket.
Recreational boaters, sailors and anglers can call TowBoatUS Lake Keowee 24-hours a day at 864-313-0968, through the BoatUS toll-free Dispatch Service at 800-391-4869, or by hailing on VHF radio channel 16.
