ALEXANDRIA, Va. December 6, 2010 –- The BoatUS Foundation wants to know who is helping boaters, sailors and anglers stay “green”. A call for nominations draws to a close December 15 for the 2010 BoatUS Foundation Environmental Leadership Award.
The honor singles out people, organizations or businesses who have made significant contributions in helping other boaters become more environmentally responsible on the water. A $1,000 award to help continue their environmental efforts is included.
“We want to know who is behind your local river cleanup, who at your marina is teaching boaters on how they can keep their lake clean, or who is solving an environmentally-challenging aspect of boating,” said Susan Shingledecker, director of environmental programs for the BoatUS Foundation for Boating Safety and Clean Water.
The award, now in its fourth year, was created to complement the efforts of the BoatUS Foundation, which has a long history of working with waterway users, marinas and local organizations throughout the country to help bring environmental messages directly to boaters.
Applications and more information about the award are available at www.BoatUS.com/Foundation. Entries must be received by December 15. Any questions may be directed to Shingledecker at SShingledecker@BoatUS.com.
