Montgomery, AL, -  July 20, 2010 – John Crews, veteran Professional Anglers Association tour pro and BoatUS Angler member, is on his way to the “Super Bowl” of fishing competition — the 2011 Bassmaster Classic. That also puts him in a highly-competitive group of 12 top pro anglers competing “post-season” for the “Toyota Tundra Angler of the Year” honors. To find out who will have bragging rights, these talented 12 will fish tournaments the next two weekends — at the Ramada Trophy Chase July 24-25 on Lake Jordan near Wetumpka, Alabama, and the Evan Williams Bourbon Trophy Triumph July 30-31 on the Alabama River near Montgomery, Alabama.

Last month on Oklahoma’s Fort Gibson Lake Crews finished eighth in the Bassmaster Elite Series “Toyota Tundra Angler of the Year” points standings, which qualifies him for the Bassmaster Classic championship to be held next February in New Orleans, Louisiana. This will be Crews’ first Bassmaster Classic appearance since 2008, when he ended a previous four-year run of making it into the top-ranked competition.

“Having a previous four-year run with the Bassmaster Classic was awesome, and then missing the cut for a couple years really drove me and increased my desire to get back in,” said Crews. “I was frustrated but finally got a few breaks.” Due to flooding, organizers were forced to move the competition after two days from the Arkansas River to Ft. Gibson Lake. “I had to scramble and adapt quickly,” added Crews. “Half of my rods weren’t rigged properly but I was able to overcome the last-minute change in venue.”

To date, the 32-year-old Crews, who hails from Virginia, has an impressive 13 top 10 finishes in BASS events and five top 10 finishes in FLW events.

BoatUS Angler’s Steve Levi said: “Like many other professional anglers, John is a BoatUS Angler member, and heading into post-season tournaments he’ll be in league with some very talented company. We know he’s focused and we’re rooting for him all the way.”
