PALM BEACH, Fla., October 10, 2017 – Captain Chris Shaffner, owner of TowBoatUS Palm Beach, was recently honored by the Marine Industries Association of Palm Beach County (MIAPBC) with the Member of the Year Award at a ceremony held at Sandpipers Cove in North Palm Beach on September 26.

Capt. Shaffner was surprised with the honor, which was bestowed at the conclusion of his discussion on the recent Hurricane Irma cleanup effort and salvage operations. Said MIAPBC Operations Director Alyssa Freeman, “Capt. Shaffner has been nominated for this award for a couple of years running now, but every time he got wind of it, he insisted we award it to another nominee. This year is the first time we have kept our decision a secret until the night of the ceremony, and it paid off!”

Said MIAPBC Executive Director Chuck Collins, “Some of Capt. Shaffner’s ideas from serving on our membership committee have directly resulted in an increase in our membership numbers. For more than 10 years he’s also been a big part of our Palm Beach Holiday Boat Parade, in charge of all of the volunteer vessels on the night of the event that collect thousands of toys dockside. He also coordinates with law enforcement to ensure a safe event.” Collins notes that Shaffner serves on several committees and organizations, including the governor’s appointed Boating Advisory Council.

Perhaps summing up the honoree best, said Collins, “Capt. Shaffner has gone out of his way to selflessly help other association and community members when they really needed it.”
