U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 10-13 Of
Wyckoff, NJ Takes BoatU.S. “Best Flotilla In The Nation Award”

BoatU.S presented U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 10-13 of Wyckoff, NJ with the prestigious “Best Flotilla in the Nation” award for 2004 at the Auxiliary’s National Convention recently held in Orlando, FL. The Flotilla, of the First Southern Region, District 10, bested 1,200 other flotillas across the nation for the top honors.

In 2004, these 60 volunteers contributed over 7,300 operations-hours providing patrols for Greenwood Lake in New York/New Jersey, on the Hudson River, and in New York Harbor in support of U.S. Coast Guard activities including public education, boating safety, operations, and fellowship.

In addition, Flotilla 10-13 conducted 288 marine dealer visits and performed 724 vessel safety checks. It also offered 189 public education classes that taught seamanship to over 2,000 students. The group had been awarded a BoatU.S. Foundation Boating Safety Grant earlier in 2005 to produce a chart of Greenwood Lake.

Flotilla Commander John Yskamp said, “We work hard throughout the year just trying to do our best to provide the recreational boater with the knowledge and help they need. When someone notices our efforts, it gives us the will to do even more.”

BoatU.S. Foundation President Ruth Wood said, “The men and women of Flotilla 10-13 dedicated their time and expertise to help make our waterways safe for boaters. We appreciate the efforts of this outstanding group.”

The BoatU.S Foundation for Boating Safety and Clean Water is a national 501(c)(3) nonprofit education and research organization primarily funded by the voluntary contributions of 630,000 members of BoatU.S. The Foundation operates more than a dozen programs including the only accredited, free, online general boating safety course, a low-cost EPIRB rental program, the “Help Stop the Drops” national clean fueling campaign, a free kid’s Life Jacket Loaner program, and has awarded hundreds of thousands of dollars in grants for nonprofit groups for boating safety and environmental projects.
