BoatU.S. Magazine Wins Apex Award Third Year In A Row

Largest U.S. Circulation Boating Magazine Honored for Editorial Commentary

For the third year in a row, BoatU.S. Magazine has received an Apex Award, this time for its editorial column, Behind the Buoy.

“We’re are especially proud to be recognized in the editorial commentary category as BoatU.S. Magazine is unique in the crowded field of boating and sportfishing publications in that its editorial focus is on news, public policy issues and consumer topics of interest to serious boat owners rather than on recreation per se,” said BoatU.S. Magazine Founding Editor, Michael Sciulla, who has directed the association’s flagship publication since 1980.

An additional Apex Award was received this year for a feature article on Cape May, New Jersey, written by Travel Editor Tony Gibbs and designed by Art Director Carla Shamblen.

Now in its 17th year, the Apex Awards are based on excellence in graphic design, editorial content and the ability to achieve overall communications excellence. Nearly 5,000 entries were received by the judges.

BoatU.S. Magazine last won an Apex Award in 2004 for its “covers” and in 2003 was recognized with its first Apex Award for “Most Improved Magazine and Journal.” BoatU.S. Magazine was redesigned in 2002, six years after the publication was transformed from a newsletter tabloid to a glossy four-color magazine format.

BoatU.S. Magazine, with an ABC-audited circulation of nearly 600,000 subscribers, is the largest publication in recreational boating – nearly three times the circulation of the next largest publication. For a free copy of BoatU.S. Magazine go to http://www.BoatUS.com/news.
