BoatUS Magazine
Wins Back-To-Back Apex Awards
For Excellence
BoatUS Magazine, the official publication of Boat
Owners Association of The United States, recently won an Apex Award
in the category, “Covers.”
Now in its
sixteenth year, The Apex Awards are based on excellence in graphic design,
editorial content and the ability to achieve overall communications
excellence. Nearly 5,500 entries were received by the judges.
BoatUS
Magazine is unique in the crowded field of boating and sportfishing
publications in that its editorial focus is on news, public policy issues
and consumer topics of interest to serious boat owners, many of whom
have adopted recreational boating as a lifestyle.
“We’re
all very proud of the fact that our covers do not rely on scantily clad
women or men with gold chains to depict the boating lifestyle,”
said BoatUS Magazine Founding Editor, Michael Sciulla, who
has directed the association’s flagship publication since 1980.
“Even more importantly,” said Sciulla, “our covers
are not used as an advertising lure. Our editorial and graphics team
strives to create an esthetically interesting cover that will engage
the reader. We are grateful for this recognition, especially given the
level of the competition,” he added.
This latest
Apex Award for “Covers” comes on the heels of another Apex
Award in 2003 for “Most Improved Magazine and Journal.”
BoatUS Magazine was redesigned in 2002, six years after the
publication was transformed from a newsletter tabloid to a glossy four-color
magazine format. “We are proud of what our team has accomplished
in such a short time with this publication in terms of its new look,
its editorial content and an increasing number of advertising pages,”
said Sciulla.
BoatUS
Magazine, with an ABC-audited circulation of nearly 560,000 subscribers
is the largest publication in recreational boating – nearly three
times the circulation of the next largest publication. For a free copy
