From BoatUS FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE BoatUS Offers Free Winterizing GuideMost Freeze Related Damage Expected in Temperate StatesWith winter fast approaching,
Boat Owners Association of The United States has a free winterizing
guide available to help boaters prepare their vessels for freezing temperatures.
“Most boaters believe that freeze related damage only happens in states like Minnesota, New York, or Maine,” said Bob Adriance, BoatUS Marine Insurance technical director. “But the reality is that boats in the temperate states have a far worse record for freeze related damage, with sunny California leading the pack. Florida, Texas, Louisiana, Alabama and Georgia also experience similar problems,” he added. Adriance explains that boaters in colder climates know the realities of freezing temperatures and therefore prepare accordingly. However, when bitter temperatures slip down into the Sunbelt, many boaters are caught unprepared. “It only takes one night of freezing temperatures to cause damage. This is especially true of boats stored on trailers. Unlike a boat in a wet slip, where the surrounding water retains warmth longer, boats on trailers surrounded by air are more vulnerable to a sudden freeze,” he adds. The winterizing guide is available by going to http://www.BoatUS.com/Seaworthy or by calling 800-283-2883. BoatUS – Boat Owners Association of The United States – is the nation’s leading advocate for recreational boaters and provides its 550,000 members with a wide array of consumer services including a group-rate marine insurance program that provides over $7 billion in hull coverage; the largest fleet of more than 500 towing assistance vessels; discounts on fuel, slips, and repairs at over 700 Cooperating Marinas; boat financing; and a subscription to BoatUS Magazine, the most widely read boating publication in the U.S. For membership information visit http://www.BoatUS.com or call 800-395-2628. |
