From BoatUS FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE BoatUS MAGAZINE WINS APEX AWARD FOR EXCELLENCEBoatUS Magazine, the official publication of Boat Owners Association of The United States, recently won an Apex Award in the category, “Most Improved Magazines and Journals.” Now in its fifteenth year, The Apex Awards are based on excellence in graphic design, editorial content and the ability to achieve overall communications excellence. Nearly 5,000 entries were received by the judges. BoatUS Magazine was redesigned in September 2002 by a team including BoatUS Art Director Carla Piscitelli, Graphic Designer Jeff Lang, Editor Michael Sciulla, Managing Editor Elaine Dickinson and Publisher Richard Schwartz. The redesign came six years after the publication was transformed from a newsletter tabloid to a glossy four-color magazine format. The magazine is unique in the crowded field of boating and sportfishing publications in that its editorial focus is on news, public policy issues and consumer topics of interest to serious boat owners and their lifestyles. “We’re all very proud of what has been accomplished in such a short time with this publication in terms of its new look, its editorial content and an increasing number of advertising pages,” said BoatUS Magazine Editor Michael Sciulla who has directed the association’s flagship publications since 1980. BoatUS Magazine, with an ABC-audited 528,196 subscribers, has the largest paid circulation of any publication in recreational boating – more than two and one half times the circulation of the next largest publication.
