Inaugural Women’s Sailing Conference in Marblehead, MA Sells Out

Strong demand for women’s sailing programs in the U.S. resulted in a complete sell out of all 110 spots available for the inaugural Women’s Sailing Conference held on June 8 at the Corinthian Yacht Club in Marblehead, MA. Due to the overwhelming interest this non-competitive and educational forum led by, and attended by, women only, organizers are looking at increasing availability next year.

The event was sponsored by BoatUS and the National Women’s Sailing Association (NWSA). For the past decade, BoatUS has also been the primary sponsor of the Annual Women’s Sailing Convention held in Corona del Mar, CA, on which this program was based.

The one-day event succeeded in providing a fun, non-pressured atmosphere where women sailors learned from expert women instructors, as well as each other. It gave a chance for the women participants to brush up or learn new skills on practical topics from diesel engine troubleshooting and trailering to racing, GPS basics, and sail trim. Opportunities to network and share sailing stories were also built into the program.

"BoatUS and NWSA are the first to bring this highly successful format to the East Coast," said Elaine Dickinson, managing editor of BoatUS Magazine and a member of NWSA Board of Directors. "We are thrilled that it was a sell out," she said.
