WHEN: Sunday, April 29, 2007, starting at 12:00 Noon.

WHAT: “Opening Day on the Bay” is parade of nearly 250 decorated boats that celebrates the official beginning of a new boating season on San Francisco Bay. The theme of this year’s Opening Day is “Pages of Time.” Viewers can expect to see historical scenes from the past aboard the parade of both power and sail boats. In addition, various classic vessels are participating, some of which are over 100 years old.  The Lynx, a 122-foot topsail schooner replica of a privateer from the War of 1812, and the 165-foot Potomac, a former US Coast Guard cutter used by Franklin D. Roosevelt as his “Floating White House,” will also be parading.

The occasion will be a unique opportunity to see these special boats, all at the same time, sailing close to shore where land-based spectators can enjoy the event from Crissy Field to Pier 39.  The parade will be led by one of the City of San Francisco's popular fireboats, the Phoenix.  To promote a safe and enjoyable day, the US Coast Guard, the Coast Guard Auxiliary and US Power Squadrons and other designated craft will patrol the parade route.

WHERE: Free public viewing is available on San Francisco’s Northern Shoreline from Crissy Field to Pier 39.
