ALEXANDRIA, Va., May 8, 2009 – The nation’s largest boating magazine has selected “The Top Women in American Boating.” The May 2009 BoatUS Magazine recognizes 11 female leaders in recreational boating and includes CEOs, Olympic and Paralympic gold medalists, America’s Cup sailors, wakeboarding and sport-fishing champions, and boating advocates. Katrin Theodoli: The only woman in America — and possibly the world — to own and run a high-performance boat manufacturer, Magnum Marine.
Anna Tunnicliffe: 2008 Olympic gold medalist and 2008 Rolex Yachtswoman of The Year as well as the #1 ranked woman Laser Radial sailor in the world.
Dallas Friday: Champion wakeboarder, 2004 ESPY Award winner for Best Female Action Sport Athlete and voted the #1 Female Rider for the last eight years.
Kris Carroll: Rose through the ranks at Grady-White Boats to become the first female to be named President of a US boat building company in 1993.
Dawn Riley: Held leading roles in three America’s Cup campaigns, including Captain of the all-woman America3 team in 1995, and now CEO of America True Foundation supporting youth sailing programs across the country.
Elizabeth Meyer: Restorer of classic wooden race boats and co-founder of the International Yacht Restoration School in Newport, RI, which has saved more than 180 historic boats.
Maureen McKinnon-Tucker: Mother of two and disabled sailor who became the first woman ever to win a gold medal in Paralympic sailing, she’s also a peer mentor for new paraplegics.
Lenora Clark: As a board member of the influential Recreational Boaters of California and second-term member of the California Boating and Waterways Commission, she is on watch successfully protecting the rights of boaters all over the state of California.
Kathy Magers: Former women’s bass fishing national champion and two-time Hall of Famer, now an advisor to the Women’s Sport Fishing Foundation.
Betty Bauman: American Sportfishing Association Woman of the Year and founder of “Ladies, Let’s Go Fishing!” also known as the “no-yelling school of fishing.”
