Fun And Fitness On The Water

By Rich Armstrong

New products cater to both health-conscious water lovers as well as practical DIYers.

Floating inflatable fitness mats

From surfing to stand-up paddleboards, aquatic-minded people have sought to have fun on the water, with a bonus of a good physical workout. The latest trend emerging is yoga on the water, and two companies are delivering a new kind of water toy.

From Caribe SUPs comes the Vida, a floating inflatable yoga and fitness mat designed for use in a pool, lake, river, or even a calm patch of ocean.

The inflatable Vida board measures 7.5 feet by 34 inches, has a rigid workout surface, is 6-inches thick, and is rated for 350 pounds, yet only weights 19 pounds.

Commonly used for SUPYoga, Pilates on water, CrossFit, bootcamp, and other aerobic activities, according to Caribe, noting that some of their customers are using them as an extension for their boats and/or a utility platform to perform maintenance around docks and yachts.

The Vida retails for $799, which include a manual pump and repair kit.

A second manufacturer, Boga, sells a variation inflatable yoga platform, the FITMAT Aqua. Like the Vida, the FITMAT Aqua floats, has a rigid platform, sells for $795, and can support up to 400 pounds, according to Boga. The FITMAT also comes with integrated tethers that can be pulled to focus on upper body and arm strength.

Boga is focused on proactively promoting the sport by growing its "Floating Studios" for trained yogis to teach yoga.
