Lighthouse Stamps To Light Up Letters
Want to shine a bit of light on New England's rich nautical heritage? Then head to your local post office for a book of the latest "Forever" stamps featuring five historic New England lighthouses that have guided ships to safe harbor and saved countless lives while guarding this coast for almost 300 years. They're among the oldest in the U.S., and each one is on the National Register of Historic Places: the New London Harbor Light in Connecticut; Portland Head Light on Cape Elizabeth, Maine; Point Judith Lighthouse in Narragansett, Rhode Island; Boston Harbor Light, also a National Historic Landmark; and Portsmouth Harbor Lighthouse in New Hampshire. The Postal Service set July 13 as the first day of issue with special dedication ceremonies scheduled to take place at or near all five locations. The stamps and related products are available at www.usps.com/stamps.
