Excellence in Boating Safety
Grants Award

Grant recipients are eligible for the Excellence in Boating Safety Grants Award which has a cash award of $1000. Grant recipients may apply for this prestigious award by completing their grant project and providing the grant administrator with a final report in accordance with their contract.

Each year the BoatU.S. Foundation selects local nonprofit organizations to promote boating safety education through our grant program. We are always looking for the most innovative and effective ways to reach people with this message. Each year the Excellence in Boating Safety Grants Award will go to the group whose project best meets the criteria below.

A committee, made up of BoatU.S. Foundation staff and other members of BoatU.S. will serve as judges. Final reports must contain a summary of the project, photos, any sample items, and receipts accounting for the funding provided. The committee will further evaluate projects based on the following characteristics:

  • New and innovative ways to educate.
  • Resourceful and efficient use of grant funds.
  • Quality and professionalism of work.
  • Use of positive Do messages rather than relying on negative Don’t messages.
  • Organizations flexibility and effectiveness in ability to carry out the project in a prompt manner.

The grant recipient that is chosen by the committee for the Excellence in Boating Safety Grants Award will receive the following benefits:

  • Recognition of their work on the BoatU.S. Foundation Website.
  • A press release to be distributed in their local area recognizing them as the recipient of that year’s Excellence in Boating Safety Grants Award.
  • A national press release that will incorporate the winner of that years Excellence in Boating Safety Grants Award and the announcement of the following year’s Boating Safety Grant Program recipients.
  • An additional $1000 will be given to the winner to supplement the goals of the project.

This is an exciting new aspect of our grant program and we look forward to your participation.

If you have any questions regarding this program, please email the Grant Administrator, or call (800) 245-2628 ext. 8354.

The booklets will be handed out to boaters in boating safety classes, dealers, marinas and chandleries in the area.
