New Temporary Schedule for Lady’s Island Bridge, Mile 536:

The high level bridge at ICW Mile 536.7, south of the Lady’s Island Swing Bridge in Beaufort, SC, was hit by a barge and damaged. It is now closed to vehicular traffic. Vessel traffic is not currently restricted here, according to the Coast Guard.

BUT: All traffic going on and off of Lady’s Island/St. Helena Island area (it’s a big island) has been rerouted to pass over the Lady’s Island Swing Bridge at Mile 536. The schedule for this bridge has been modified as of May 1, 2007. It is not known how long the bridge repairs will take, but we have been told by the Coast Guard that it will be in the range of months. The following is copied from the notice from the Coast Guard:

LADY’S ISLAND SWING BRIDGE TEMPORARY OPERATING HOURS:

The new times of operation are as follows.
Lady’s Island Bridge, across the Beaufort River, Mile 536.0 at Beaufort. The draw shall operate as follows:

(1) On Monday through Friday, except Federal holidays:
(i) From 6:30 a.m. to 10 a.m., 11 a.m to 1 p.m., and 3:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., the draw need not open for recreational traffic; and,
(ii) The draw shall open at 6:30 a.m., 10 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 2 p.m., 3 p.m., 7 p.m. and on signal between the hours of 7 pm and 6:30 am.
(iii) The bridge shall open on signal at all times to commercial traffic.
(2) On Saturday, Sunday, and Federal holidays:
(i) From 7:30 a.m. to 10 a.m., 11 a.m to 1 p.m., and 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., the draw need not open for recreational traffic; and,
(ii) The draw shall open at 7:30 a.m., 10 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 2 p.m., 3 p.m., 6:30 p.m. and on signal between the hours of 6:30 pm and 7:30 am.
(iii).The bridge shall open on signal at all times to commercial traffic.

The Coast Guard is continually monitoring this situation and may change the opening times as necessary to accommodate needs.
