Changes in Okeechobee Waterway Lock Schedule, April 1, 2015:
a. 33 CFR Navigation and Navigable Waters
1. Notice to Navigation Notice is given that the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District will change hours of operation at all five Locks along the Okeechobee Waterway beginning 1 April 2015. Changes will affect operations at the St Lucie, Port Mayaca, Moore Haven, Ortona and W.P. Franklin Locks. Hours of operation will be 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM daily with lockages at St Lucie and WP Franklin based on Lake Okeechobee's water level as outlined below.
Lake Okeechobee Level:
1) Above 12.5' Lock operations on demand 07:00 AM to 5:00 PM daily.
2) Below 12.5' Lock operations every 2 hours (07:00 AM, 09:00 AM, 11:00 AM, 1:00 PM, 3:00 PM, 4:30 PM)
3) Below 12.0' Lock operations 4 per-day (07:00 AM, 10:00 AM, 1:00 PM, 4:30 PM)
4) Below 11.5' Lock operations 3 per-day (07:00 AM, 12:00 PM, 4:30 PM)
5) Below 11.0' Lock operations 2 per-day (07:00 AM, 4:30 PM)

Port Mayaca Lock Limited Schedule:
Notice is given that Port Mayaca Lock will have scheduled 4 hour lock closures 7:30- 11:30AM and 12-4PM Monday through Friday starting 6 April 2015 to 15 April 2015. Scheduled closures are to support Divers repairing Manatee protection screens on all 4 sector gates. Midtown Tunnel Construction Project Updates: Elizabeth River, Norfolk, Va. (36.859771°-76.311423°)
As a reminder no persons or vessels are permitted to enter the safety zone without the permission of the Captain of the Port or his designated Representative.
The remaining 48 hour channel closures are scheduled for April 20, April 23, April 27, April 30, and May 11, 2015. All channel closures will begin at the stroke of midnight of the first day of the ... aforesaid periods and continue for 48 consecutive hours.

Coastal Waters from Little River, South Carolina to Panama City, Florida
Tolers Cove Marina Dredging Update, April 6, 2015:
Marcol Dredging will commence dredge operations on or about 16 February, 2015 at Tolers Cove Marina, in the Intracoastal Waterway, with the dredge CAPTAIN JOE. Dredge spoils will be deposited via pipeline across the Intracoastal Waterway at Upland Confined Disposal Facility. Dredging will continue 24 hours per day, 7 days per week basis until approximately 19 April 2015 including complete demobilization. Mariners are urged to use caution while transiting the area. Charleston Entrance Buoy Signal Change:
The Coast Guard is proposing to discontinue the RACON signal on the Charleston Entrance Lighted Buoy C (LLNR 200/2370). This aid will be recommended to have an AIS Synthetic Signal ATON mark broadcasted at the buoy's assigned position. Causton Bluff Bridge Repair:
R.L. Morrison and Sons, Incorporated has advised the Coast Guard that they will be working on the Causton Bluff/Islands Expressway Bridge Fender System across the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway, Savannah, Georgia from May 1 through July 1, 2015 between the hours of 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily. A barge will be next to the fender system restricting the waterway. Vessels requiring an unrestricted channel are requested to contract the bridge tender at least one hour prior to passing through this bridge. (7th District LNM Week 14/2015)

Southeast Coast Off-Shore Survey Operations:
CB&I and Divemaster Inc will conduct survey operations on the federal outer continental shelf, between 3 nautical miles and 8 nautical miles offshore from Jupiter, Florida to the northernmost end of South Carolina. Estimated start and end date, 17 April – 21 May, 2015. The M/V ATLANTIC SURVEYOR will operate during daylight hours, sunrise to sunset, Monday through Sunday. The vessel will monitor VHF channels 13 & 16, working channel 10. Mariners are advised to stay clear of the M/V ATLANTIC SURVEYOR and all other equipment during these operations.
After the above operation is completed CB&I and American Vibracore Services will conduct sediment samples and survey operations on the federal outer continental shelf, between 3 nautical miles and 8 nautical miles offshore. Operations will be the length of District 7, from Jupiter Florida to the northernmost end of South Carolina. Estimated start and end date 01 June – 01 August, 2015. The M/V THUNDERFORCE will operate during daylight hours, sunrise to sunset, Monday through Sunday. The vessel will monitor VHF channel 16. Mariners are advised to stay clear of the M/V THUNDERFORCE and all other equipment during these operations. (7th District LNM Week 14/2015)

Okeechobee Waterway Update:
On April 8, 2015 at 2400 hours the lake level was reported at 13.77 feet and the navigational depths were reported at 7.71 feet for Route 1 (26°58'32.23"N, 80°38'22.92"W) and 5.91 feet for Route 2 (Rim Route) (26°47'0.61"N, 26°47'0.61"N)

New Marina Construction at Watson Island Update March 27, 2015:
As part of the ongoing Island Garden project, Cashman Dredging and Marine Contracting will commence work on the Sponge Mitigation site (centrally located at 25°48'46.00"N/80°08'42.00"W) on or about March 30, 2015 and it will last until October of 2015. Once underway, the channel known as the Julia Tuttle Corridor will be closed off to construction vessels only. To traverse Biscayne Bay in this area all other vessels will have to circumnavigate via ICW. The scope of work on the project is to include dumping and placement of the dredge spoils coming from the dredge project on the west side of Watson Island (25°47'08.00"N/80°10'46.00"W). Three material transport barges, ranging in sizes up to 130'x 52', and one split hull dump barge, 260' x 55', will be traveling between the dredge site and this Sponge Mitigation site daily for offloading dredge spoils. The Sponge Mitigation site is currently enclosed by steel turbidity pipe pile and curtain. The turbidity piles are steel 24" diameter pipes and are sticking out of the water approximately 6ft and have flashing white beacons located on each of the pile heads. The floating yellow turbidity curtains are deployed along the pile lines and will designate the perimeter of the Sponge Mitigation work area. All Mariners are urged not to use the Julia Tuttle Corridor and to use extreme caution around this area. All barges and tugs will monitor VHF Channel 67. Concrete Groin Construction, Bradenton Beach:
CAYO, LLC will begin construction on the concrete groins at Bradenton Beach. Tug EMMA D and barge GRANITE II will arrive approximately 30 March. The work will include removal and reconstruction of the concrete structures. Hours of operations will be conducted Monday through Friday from 7:00am to 5:00pm daily. Approximate completion 2015 December. The work area will be located between 27.4514 N, 82.6948 W and 27.4455 N, 82.6926 W. Both vessels will monitor VHF FM Channel 16 while in the area. There will also be a temporary anchor buoy approximately 1/4 mile off shore of the work area. The buoy will be painted high visibility yellow and will be equipped with a solar powered light mounted on top. Mariners are advised to use caution when transiting the area. Florida Bridge Update: From the USCG 7th District LNM Week 14/2015:
NOTE: Information new with this alert is in bold. There are many on-going projects lasting sometimes for years. You can "Search" a bridge name for previous East Coast Alerts that may contain information that is still current. Bridges that have vertical height reduced (or other severe restriction) will remain on this list until the restriction is removed.
Sisters Creek Bridge (AICW Mil3 739.2): Archer Western Contractors, LLC has advised the Coast Guard that they are working on constructing the new High-Level Fixed Sisters Creek Bridge (30.393797° -81.460001°) across the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway, mile 739.2, Jacksonville, Duval County, Florida. This plan includes two temporary trestles placed outside the navigable channel. There will be various floating equipment outside the main channel during most of this construction. The bridge waterway construction will start in February. The main girder span construction and fender system is currently planned for Fall 2015; which will result in waterway closures/restrictions. The exact dates will be published in future Local Notice to Mariners. This project is anticipated to be completed by November/December 2015. The demolition of existing bridge is planned for January 2016 through July 2016. (7th District LNM Week 05/2015)
CSX RR Bridge Trout River: The Coast Guard has been advised that the CSX Railroad Bridge across Trout River, Jacksonville, Florida will be opened to navigation from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. each day, except for the possibility of one train crossing during this time. The bridge will remained closed to navigation from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 a.m. and will be unable to open under any circumstances. The estimated time of repair is unknown. The Coast Guard Captain of the Port Jacksonville will provide updates via Broadcast Notice to Mariners. The vertical clearance of the CSX R/R Bridge in the closed position is 2 feet.
Main Street Bridge: The Coast Guard has approved a temporary change to the operating schedule of the Main Street Bridge (30.322626° -81.658613°) across the St Johns River, Jacksonville, Florida, due to bridge repairs. From January 24 through April 30, 2015, the Main Street Bridge will open with a two hour advance notice between the 6:00 a.m. and 6:59 p.m. to the bridge tender either via VHF-FM channel 9 or by calling 904-891-2191. Between the hours of 7:00 p.m. and 5:59 a.m. a four hour advance notice to the bridge tender will be required to receive an opening. The project completion date is April 30, 2015.
During the painting operation the contractor will be placing scaffolding under the bridge which will reduce the vertical clearance of the bridge up to 10 feet. Superior Construction Company has advised the Coast Guard that they will be using a snooper truck as part of this operation which will reduce the vertical clearance to 22 feet at different locations. The snooper truck can be removed if 30 minutes advance notice is provided.
Hillsboro Inlet Bridge (NOT on the AICW): PCL Civil Constructors, Inc. has advised the Coast Guard that they will start work on the repairs to the Hillsboro Inlet Bridge (26.261229° -80.083250°) on January 5, 2015. This project is anticipated to be completed by November 14, 2015. There will be various bridge restrictions and closures throughout this project. The contractor will be working closely with the marine interests to ensure impacts to navigation will be at a minimum.
Starting on January 5, 2015, from 7:30 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. the bridge will be closed to navigation nightly through April 30, 2015. Mariners may request an opening during these time periods by providing a four-hour advance notice to the bridge tender or by calling (954)-943-1847. The vertical clearance will be reduced by 2 feet during the entire project length.
The north and south side channels will be closed to navigation during this entire time frame as there will be turbidity barriers in place and a small barge will be behind the fender system.
Venetian Causeway Bridges, East and West: The Coast Guard has been advised that the planned 9 month operation to repair the West Venetian Bridge approaches has been delayed until the Spring of 2015. When the dates are finalized, the West Venetian Bridge will remain open to all marine traffic and the Temporary Final Rule will keep the East Venetian Bridge in the closed position. The Local Notice to Mariners (LNM) and TFR will be updated once the dates are provided by the bridge owner, Miami-Dade County. During this time this bridge will only open for emergency vessels such as Coast Guard, Police and Fire. No other exemptions will be allowed.
Snake Creek Bridge: The Coast Guard is temporarily changing the regulations governing the Snake Creek Bridge (24.951605° -80.587299°) across Snake Creek, Islamorada, Florida. From 8:00 a.m. on March 16, 2015 until 6:00 p.m. on July 14, 2015, the Snake Creek Bridge will be allowed to open on signal, except that from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. this bridge will open at the top of the hour, seven days-a-week.
Additional Information: Tuesday, July 14 - Test deviation ends, last day for public meeting request (120 days from test deviation beginning.); Monday, September 14 - Comment period ends (182 days from test deviation beginning.)

Blackburn Point Swingbridge: The Blackburn Point Swingbridge across the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway, Blackburn Point, Florida may have delayed openings of up to 15 minutes from April 6 through April 10, 2015, due to vehicle traffic delays caused by road work in the area. Mariners should coordinate with the bridge tender to schedule an opening.
Park Boulevard Bridge: The Park Boulevard Bridge across the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway, Pinellas County, Florida will be on single-leaf operations from April 2 through April 20, 2015, due to a motor replacement operation. A double-leaf opening is available on demand if requested.
Kennedy Blvd Bridge, Hillsborough River, Tampa: Gemstone, LLC will be painting the Kennedy Blvd Bridge on the Hillsborough River in Tampa, FL. Floating equipment will be stationed under the bridge starting March 30, 2015. The bridge will be on a 1 week notice for double leaf openings until February 29, 2016 with the exception of the following four time periods in which it will be fully closed.

Closure 3 April 29 thru May 7
Closure 4 May 10 thru May 20
The floating equipment will occupy half of the channel and the other half will be kept open to traffic at all times. All mariners are urged to use caution when transiting the area. USCG Fifth District
Coastal Waters from Shrewsbury River, New Jersey to Little River, South Carolina
More Beach Replenishment, NJ:
Beach replenishment will begin at the end of March, 2015 and continue through December, 2015 between Townsends Inlet and Great Egg Harbor Inlet. To facilitate these operations a submerged pipeline will be placed at approximate position 39-09.8N 074-37.8W and landing on the beach at approximate position 39-11.4N 074-39.7W. Mariners should avoid this area give all work vessels a wide berth when transiting the area. (5th District LNM Week 11/2015)
Surveys Offshore Maryland:
The GeoTechnical (mini drill rig) vessel OCEAN DISCOVERY will be conducting coring surveys off the coast of Maryland beginning 10 April, 2015 and continuing through 20 May, 2015. The vessel is 86.90 meters; Blue and White and will be working 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The vessel will not be towing any survey cables; however the vessel will be positioning itself over specific locations to allow drilling of core samples from the sea bottom. Vessels are requested to remain clear a minimum of 1 nautical mile and may contact the research vessel on VHF 13 and 16 for any concerns. More information may be obtained by contacting Tom W. Dredging C&D Canal East Entrance:
The dredge ESSEX along with tender boats DUKE, NORFOLK, and Pusher 10 will have commenced dredging operations at the East entrance of the C and D Canal. A submerged pipeline will be placed from the dredging area to the Reedy Point Disposal Are. Operations are expected to be completed on or about 30 May, 2015. The dredge can be contacted on VHF-FM Channels 13, 16. Vessels are requested to contact the dredge 30 minutes prior to passing. (5th District LNM Week 11/2015)
Numerous Lighted Ice Buoys Remain, Less Visibility, Less Radar Detection:
Mariners are advised that Lighted Ice Buoys remain onscene, showing a reduced nominal range output, along with their configuration does not provide the same visible or radar detection as the authorized seasonal hull. Until Coast Guard Units can return them to their advertised characteristics mariners are advised to use extreme caution when transiting these waterways.

Susquehanna Bridge Repairs:
Mariners are advised that Blastech Enterprises, on behalf of the Maryland Transportation Authority, will be conducting repairs, cleaning, and painting on the Millard E. Tydings Memorial Bridge on I-95, at mile 3.2, over Susquehanna River in Havre De Grace, MD, from April 15, 2015 through August 15, 2016. Monday to Saturday, during daylight hours work will take place from a push barge and crew boat which can be contacted on VHF channels 13 or 16. A debris shield will be secured to the lower truss members of the bridge and hang down 2 feet below the truss members throughout the bridge but will not affect bridge clearances. Mariners should use extreme caution when transiting the area. (5th District LNM Week 11/2015)
CSX RR Bridge Curtis Creek Continued Closure:
Mariners are advised that the CSX Railroad Bridge, at mile 1.3, across Curtis Creek, in Baltimore, MD, will continue to be maintained in the closed-to-navigation position to facilitate railway tie work. The closure period will continue from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Mondays through Thursday until 17 April, 2015. The bridge will still be able to open for navigation with a 15 to 20 advance notice by contacting (410) 916-5045 or on VHF 13/16. At all other times, the drawbridge will operate in accordance with the operating drawbridge regulations set out in Title 33 Code of Federal Regulations Part 117.5 Mariners should adjust their transits accordingly. Annapolis Spring Sailboat Show Preparations, Annapolis Harbor:
Mariners are advised that Annapolis Boat Shows, Inc. will conduct in-water operations in Annapolis Harbor during April 21-28, 2015. In support of its annual Annapolis Spring Sailboat Show, temporary pilings, floating docks and submerged electrical cables will be placed in the northwestern quadrant of Annapolis Harbor. To support the in-water operations, long tows will cross the Chesapeake Bay and transit the Severn River, between the Bay Bridge Marina at Kent Island, MD and Annapolis Harbor at Annapolis, MD, on two occasions beginning April 6, 2015 and ending April 30, 2015. Actual dates will depend upon weather conditions. During the towing periods, mariners are urged to use extreme caution when transiting these areas and to reduce speed near the towing operations. In addition, special anchoring restrictions in Annapolis Harbor will be in effect in the event of severe weather during this period. Emergency RR Bridge Repairs, Nanticoke River:
Mariners are advised that the Norfolk Southern Railway Bridge, at mile 39.4, across Nanticoke River in Seaford DE will be operating on a sporadic schedule for final emergency repairs. The bridge will be operated from April 1 through April 6, 2015 under supervision and be closed only when trains need to operate. The bridge will be closed to navigation April 6, 2015 through April 11, 2015. There is zero vertical clearance in the closed position to vessels. Operations have been coordinated with local waterway users. Mariners are advised to use caution in the area. (5th District LNM Week 13/2015)
Submerged Pipeline, Elizabeth River:
The dredge ROCKBRIDGE will be installing a submerged pipeline between Elizabeth River Channel Lighted Buoys 19 (LLNR 9605) and 33 (LLNR 9850) in Norfolk Virginia. Dredging operations will take place between Portsmouth Marine Terminal Buoy 2PM (LLNR 9810) and Daybeacon 10 (LLNR 9832). Operations will continue until on or about 20 April, 2015. Operation will take place 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and the dredge maybe contacted on VHF Channels 13 and 16. (5th District LNM Week 14/2015)
Temporary Data Buoys, SE VA/NC Coast:
On or about April 1, 2015 the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science, Horn Point Laboratory will establish twelve (12) temporary buoys until July 1, 2015, Lighted Data Buoys in the Atlantic Ocean from Rudee Inlet to the Duck Research Pier. All buoys are yellow with a flashing four second yellow (amber).

Gilmerton Bridge Update:
Day Shift Operations: Please be advised that PCL Civil Constructors will continue to conduct day shift structural plate welding and construction of the rubber arch fendering system until September 30, 2015. One working barge will occupy the channel from 7:00 a.m. until 5:30 p.m., Monday through Saturday. All vessels requiring 60 feet or more of horizontal clearance shall provide 2 hours advance notice as detailed below.
Night Shift Operations: Due to weather related delays, PCL Civil Constructors will continue to conduct night shift pile driving operations until April 15, 2015. Two working barges will occupy the channel from 8:00 p.m. until 5:00 a.m., Sunday through Thursday. All vessels requiring less than 60 feet of horizontal clearance shall provide 2 hours advance notice. All vessels requiring 60 feet or more of horizontal clearance shall provide 24 hours advance notice.
PCL Civil Constructors will conduct night shift structural plate welding and construction of the rubber arch fendering system from April 15, 2015 until September 30, 2015. One working barge will occupy the channel from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., Sunday through Thursday. All vessels requiring 60 feet or more of horizontal clearance shall provide 2 hours advance notice.
Mariners providing such notice shall contact the bridge tender at (757) 485-5488 or via VHF Channel 13. All mariners are advised to use extreme caution while transiting the area. Please be advised that the Gilmerton Bridge continues to operate in accordance with the schedule set forth in 33 Code of Federal Regulations Section 117.997(c). Destroyed AICW Markers Not to be Replaced:
The Coast Guard is proposing to permanently discontinue Pungo River Daybeacon 14 (LLNR 33005). Daybeacon 14 is currently missing/destroyed and marked by Temporary Unlighted Buoy (TRUB). The assigned position of Daybeacon 14 is in close proximity (approximately 1000 yards) to Pungo River Daybeacon 12 (LLNR 38095) and Pungo River Light 13 (LLNR 38090) and discontinuance will have minimal effect to safe navigation within the waterway.
The Coast Guard is proposing to discontinue New River/Cape Fear River Daybeacon 146 (LLNR 39690). Daybeacon 146 is currently missing/destroyed and marked by a Temporary Unlighted Buoy (TRUB). The current Assigned Position of Daybeacon 146 is in close proximity to both NR/CFR Daybeacon 148 (LLNR 39695) to the south NR/CFR Light 145 (LLNR 39685) to the north and discontinuance will have minimal impact on safe navigation within the waterway.
Interested Mariners and other stakeholders are strongly encouraged to comment on the potential impacts this proposal would have on navigational safety.

Bonner Bridge Shoaling, Regulated Navigation Area:
Mariners are advised that Coast Guard Sector North Carolina is enforcing a regulated navigation area IVO Herbert C. Bonner bridge in Oregon Inlet, NC in accordance with 33 CFR 165.520. ANY VESSEL WITH A DRAFT GREATER THAN 5 FEET MAY NOT TRANSIT WITHIN 100 YARDS OF THE BONNER BRIDGE. The U.S. Coast Guard will continue to monitor the conditions of the waterway and update the Regulated Navigation Area as necessary. Bridge Construction, Elizabeth City, Dates Extended:
Mariners are advised that Archer Western Contractors, LLC will be extending bridge construction at US 158 Bridge in Elizabeth City, North Carolina commencing on or about March 25, 2015 and ending approximately August 30, 2015. Mariners are requested to stay clear of the barges, buoys and construction equipments. Mariners are requested to exercise extreme caution when approaching, passing, and leaving the construction area. Mariners are cautioned to strictly comply with the rules of the road when approaching, passing and leaving the area of operations. Topsail Inlet Dredging Dates Extended:
Dredging operations within Topsail Inlet, Topsail Creek and Banks Channel has been extended until 15 April, 2015. The pipeline will be placed from the dredging location to the Topsail Beach. The Dredge CHESAPEAKE will standby on channels #13 and #16 VHF-FM. Operations continue to take place 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Traffic should call 30 minutes prior to expected time of passage. Again--Shoaling Reported in New River Inlet AICW Crossing:
Hazard to navigation - shoaling has been reported to a depth of 3 feet between the Bogue Sound-New River Buoy 72A (LLNR 39300) (34.553901°-77.349136°) and Bogue Sound-New River Buoy 72B (LLNR 393003) and depth of 4 feet at Bogue Sound-New River Buoy 74 (LLNR 39305) on the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway. Mariners are advised to transit the area with caution. Bald Head Island Construction: Jetty and Groin:
Mariners are advised that the Orion Construction Inc. will be commencing construction of a jetty at the Bald Head Island Entrance Channel at Bald Head Island, North Carolina commencing on or about March 20, 2015 and ending approximately November 15, 2015. Mariners are requested to stay clear of the construction barges, tugs and work boats. Mariners are requested to exercise extreme caution when approaching, passing, and leaving the construction area. Orion Construction Inc. monitors VHF channels 13 and 16. Mariners are cautioned to strictly comply with the rules of the road when approaching, passing and leaving the area of operations. Ice Damage Warning:
With the severe ice conditions we've experienced this winter in First Coast Guard District waterways, aids to navigation may not be operating according to the Light List specifications. There will also be delays in returning year-round buoys and characteristics to their stations according to dates specified in the Light List. Please refer to the weekly notice to mariners for current discrepancies, corrections and temporary changes. MA Offshore Acoustic Testing:
An acoustic telemetry study involving netting (one pound net, possible gillnetting and boat seining) and deployment of a receiver array mounted on buoys is being done until July 1, 2015. Buoys will be visible from the surface and marked with standard danger markings (top-hat style with orange diamond in reflective tape). A total of 5-7 buoys will be deployed in (PA) 41°55'52.000"N 70° 3'52.310"W. (First District LNM Week 14/2015)
New Buoys proposed for Woods Hole Passage:
The U.S. Coast Guard is considering making the following changes to this waterway:
1. Establish Woods Hole Passage buoy 1A green can in approximate position 41-31-11.880N, 070-40-39.540W.
2. Establish Woods Hole Passage buoy 2A red nun in approximate position 41-31-14.520N, 070-40-37.740W.
3. Light Woods Hole Passage junction buoy SB (LLNR 15790) with a flashing (2+1) green light.
4. Establish Broadway buoy 4 red nun in approximate position 41-31-08.580N, 070-40-39.120W.
Interested Mariners are strongly encouraged to comment on this proposal in writing, either personally or through their organization. All comments will be carefully considered and are requested prior to 1 May 2015 to complete the process. Fishers Island Meteorological Buoy:
The Navy has installed a Meteorological Buoy in (PA) 41-14-56.460N 072-00-18.360W, which will be operation 7 days a week 24 hours a day until November 30, 2015. (First District LNM Week 14/2015)
Submerged Vessel, Plum Beach Channel, NY:
The CG has rcvd a report of partially submerged 25 foot grey workboat in approximate posn 40-3-.60.000n 073-53-54.000w. Mariners use caution while transiting the area. (First District LNM Week 14/2015)
Sunken Vessel, Fire Island:
The U.S. Coast Guard received a report of a sunken vessel in the following location 40-39-19N 073-03-07W, approximately 1 mile South of Fire Island Pines. Water depth over vessel has been reduced to less than 10 feet and trapped lines are floating on the surface. It is marked with lighted buoys. Lat/Long positions derived from Google Earth will be given for significant places in the Alerts, such as bridge locations. These will be in italics, and in the following format: (xx.xxxxxx°-xx.xxxxxx°) for locations new with this alert. Where a Lat/Long position is copied from a USCG Local Notice to Mariners (LNM) or from the Light Lists, it will be in whatever format the Coast Guard has used which varies between districts and LNM and Light List writers, and will be in plain text, rather than italics. Some positions are approximate. We do not provide this information for navigational purposes and it should not be used as such.
US Army Corps of Engineers Websites for AICW Surveys and Reports
Despite the federal government reduction in funding, the USACE, in our opinion, does a really good job at surveying and recording depths in the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway (AICW). They may not be able to dredge every little shoal, but at least they let you know where the shoals are so you can plan accordingly. Some areas in North Carolina are currently being dredged or are scheduled to be dredged soon. So, before you get too excited about the shallow depths reported by some fellow cruisers, check out the latest surveys at the following:
