Canal Update: East Coast Alerts

Dismal Swamp Canal, Alternate Atlantic ICW Route is OPEN and on its regular four lockings per day schedule (0830, 1100, 1330 and 1500).

New York Canals: Recent flooding from the remnants of T/S Lee has caused several closings. Check www.canals.ny.gov or 1-800-4canal4. As of today, Thursday, September 8, 2011, there are more closures of Erie Canal locks (E-2 Through E-25). Several locks in the Champlain Canal are now flooded as well as in the Oswego Canal and the Cayuga-Seneca Canal.

We will update this information in the next regular East Coast Alerts on September 15, 2011. Meanwhile, if you are cruising in the New York Canal System, please check the above website for updated information. This information is updated daily as needed. From pictures we have seen of the Erie Canal damage, it appears that this canal will be impassable for a long time.
