Supermarkets
and Amphora -
August 8, 2001
We went from
the artificial resort of Porto Rotondo to Olbia, a refreshingly "real"
city dating back to Roman times. Not as glamarous as Porto Rontondo, but
more to our liking. They are digging a tunnel under the harbor and have
found remains of Roman boats and as we walked past the construction site
en route to the supermarket, we saw workers sorting pieces of Roman amphora
and other ceramic pieces. A real surprise.
Dockage on
the town quay was free and the supermarket large and well stocked. Sardinia
has excellent cheese and some wonderful breads and we are enjoying experimenting
with new foods.
