Nantucket Open-House Cookbook and Cold Weather Cooking by Sarah Leah Chase 2 Cookbook suggestions by Lori Ross Published in 1987 and 1990 respectively, these two cookbooks are my very favorites for entertaining year round. Open-House focuses on recipes for Spring and Summer, while Cold Weather Cooking satisfies Fall and Winter cravings. Each cookbook features hundreds of delicious, generally uncomplicated recipes, many of which may be prepared ahead for parties, buffets, and picnics. For years I have received kudos for serving Chase’s Country Pate with Beer and Fennel, White Bean ...... Read More |

| Online Cooking Site Suggestion by Lori Ross WWW.COOKTHINK.COM - Cook what you crave! www.cookthink.com is a fun and useful cooking web site that allows readers to find recipes by ingredient, cuisine, type of dish and even your mood and cravings! I especially like that I can list a number of ingredients I have on hand in the search engine and I can find 10-20 recipes that use all or some of them. At the end of a cruise, when I'm running out of things but want to cook aboard, COOKTHINK offers great ideas for main dishes and sides as well as appetizers that I could serve. The recipes are eas...... Read More |

Microwave risotto turns out a bit less creamy than stove-top but it is wonderfully cooked with only one stir during the cooking process. This is appealing on the boat as it dirties fewer dishes and allows me to wander away from the galley to be with my guests. Serves 4 to 6. 2 tsp oil 1 medium onion, minced 1 clove garlic, minced 1 ¼ cup brown rice 2 cups chicken broth ½ cup white wine 1 bay leaf 1 cup green peas (fresh are best, but frozen are good too) 2 tbsp fresh b......
