  • Bay Foundation of Morro Bay of Morro Bay, CA, was awarded $1391 to install 13 signs showing the location of pump-outs and where to purchase and recycle oil absorbent pads on the Morro Bay waterfront and in Morro Bay State Park.
  • Tropical Audubon Society, Inc. of Miami, FL, was awarded $1600 to purchase 32 monofilament line recycling bins and 32 volunteer “tool kits.”
  • Partners for Conservation of Burlington, IA, was awarded $2000
    to print 1,375 decals for boat windshields reminding boaters to bring their trash home with them.
  • Everglades for Everyone of Everglades City, FL, was awarded $1685
    to develop, print, and mail 5,000 “Code of Ethics for Boaters and Fishermen in the Everglades” brochures.
  • Boston Harbor Association of Boston, MA, was awarded $2000 to develop and print 1,500 brochures directed at boaters on ways to protect water quality in Boston Harbor.
  • Sea Scout Ship 1797, BSA of Winthrop, MA, was awarded $1500 to build a clean water and boating safety mobile educational trailer for use at public events.
  • St. Mary’s River Project of St. Mary’s City, MD, was awarded $1922
    to develop and print 100 educational signs that educate boaters about local environmental issues.
  • St. Joseph Power Squadron of St. Joseph, MI, was awarded $1363
    to print 12 signs, 11 counter signs and run two ads reminding boaters to keep their waterways clean.
  • Blue Ocean Society for Marine Conservation of Portsmouth, NH, was awarded $1232 to print brochures and eight signs for the “Boater Awareness Project.”
  • Alliance for a Living Ocean of North Beach Haven, NJ, was awarded $700
    to produce 50 signs reminding boaters to stay 100 feet from the shoreline.
  • Lake Mead Boat Owners Association of Las Vegas, NV, was awarded $1188 to print 10,000 flyers and 10,000 business cards to educate boaters about preventing the westward spread of zebra mussels.
  • Willamette Riverkeeper of Portland, OR, was awarded $1800 to design and print 4,000 “River Friendly Boating Guides to the Willamette River.”
  • Lake Metonga Association, Inc. of Crandon, WI, was awarded $1796
    to erect two educational bulletin boards and purchase two power washers to help prevent the spread of aquatic nuisance species.
2004 Recipients
  • Coastal Water Watch & Southport Sail and Power Squadron of Southport, NC, to share environmental messages with boaters by designing and installing large scale educational/interactive signs at four area marinas and two boat ramps.
  • Downtown Sailing Center, Inc. of Baltimore, MD, to print clean fueling materials to distribute to area marinas and boat clubs, including clean fueling cards to attach to fuel pump handles.
  • Fairwind Yacht Club of Marina Del Ray, CA, to provide quarterly trainings to Marina del Rey Fuel Dock staff on clean fueling habits, and to distribute clean fueling supplies and literature to area boaters.
  • Florida Sea Grant of Miami, FL, to purchase printed bags and oil absorbent pads for 1,000 fuel spill prevention kits for boaters.
  • Higgins Lake Advisory Committee of Roscommon, MI, to target 1,500 area boaters with clean boating packets that include educational materials and tools. Four area marinas will receive clean fueling supplies to use at their fuel docks.
  • Lake Champlain Chapter of Trout Unlimited of Ontario, NY, to post 50 signs and 25 literature boxes to educate boaters about preventing the spread of aquatic nuisance species.
  • Lake Pend Orielle Idaho Club, of Sand Point, ID, to print approximately 3,500 color maps of the lake that will share information on boating safety and reducing pollution from boats.
  • Les Cheneaux Watershed Project of Cedarville, MI, to design and print about 3,000 color maps of the area that promote positive habits boaters can adopt to protect the environment.
  • Marine Merchants Association of Page, AZ, to purchase approximately 1,000 fueling bibs to distribute to marinas, yacht clubs, and fuel docks on Lake Powell.
  • Massachusetts Marine Trades Educational Trust of Milton, MA, to develop and print approximately 2,500 booklets to educate boaters about clean fueling practices and laws.
  • Ontario Friends of the Parks of Morrisonville, NY, to erect a kiosk and recycling center that will educate boaters about environmental issues. Additionally, an anti-littering decal will be developed and handed out with launch passes at local parks.
  • Passaic River Coalition of Basking Ridge, NJ, to develop and distribute approximately 5,000 brochures for boaters on the prevention of fuel spills.
  • Philpott Fairy Stone Safety Council of Bassett, VA, to purchase and imprint 2,000 litter bags that can be exchanged (full of collected trash) at the state park visitor's center for a food voucher at a local fast food restaurant.
  • Salem Sound Coastwatch of Salem, MA, to print 1,500 double-sided, laminated "Quick Reference Guide to Clean Boating" cards.
  • St. Mary's River Management Committee of Folkston, GA, to produce 20 anti-pollution signs to post on the river and three monofilament fishing line recycling bins.
  • US Coast Guard Auxiliary District 5N-Division 7-Flotilla 12 of Long Beach Township, NJ, to purchase about 500 oil socks to distribute to boaters who are found to have oil in their bilges during vessel safety checks.
  • US Coast Guard Auxiliary District 8- Division 4- Flotilla 4 of Lafayette, LA, to construct 20 monofilament line collection sites and advertise the stations through brochures.
  • US Coast Guard Auxiliary District 8WB Division 16 Flotilla 03 of Grove, OK, to post 18 signs on Grand Lake to help boaters learn how to prevent the Westward spread of zebra mussels.
  • US Coast Guard Auxiliary District 13-Division 03-Flotilla 05 of Tacoma, WA, to develop a video and duplicate and distribute 500 VHS tapes on how to properly refuel a boat and handle a fuel spill.
