Don Casey Tip #3

Bilge Pumps

Small boat, small bilge pump. It is a natural assumption--and it is wrong. If you run a hose into a cup and a bucket, which one fills first? The less interior volume your boat has, the more pump capacity you need to give you time to find and stem a leak. Small pumps are ideal for ridding the bilge of rain and shaft-gland drips, but for flooding you want the largest pump space and budget allow.
