Bruce, I would suggest you join the Starwind Spindrift Forum www.starwinds.com/phpbb/index.php (no cost, just register).  There are several Spindrift owners who are versed in the 22.  These are mainly the Rebel Industry boats, but they may know about a 1976 model.   The group is not very large but you might get a few answers.

For me, if the boat is sound and the price is right, they are a fine weekender or family cruiser.  They sail well, point good, and may not race at the front of the pack but can get you around the course.  I can single hand both the Spindrift and the Starwind 22.  But I can only step the mast on the Spindrift (not tall enough for the Starwind, so I use a mast cruch)   S.
